Treading lightly into this New Year...
Dear friends~
As I write this, I am slowly emerging from my holiday cocoon and gently stepping into re-entry. Very gently…2025 already feels chaotic, unsteady and full of the unexpected. And one can only imagine what else is in store.
While I, along with the rest of the world, watch in horror as so many friends and places in California are tested by nature and nurtured by the many many brave souls who are visibly risking their lives daily to save what can be saved, I am reminded of the simple practice of meditation. A practice that has helped me through so many challenging times. I am reminded that above all else, gratitude, connection and love is where I must lean. It’s in community where we find what we least expect yet need the most. It takes a village and I have always been so grateful for mine.
My empty nest has been charmed once again by my sweet daughter who is home from college for just a bit longer. Our long chats, deep and light, punctuate the days and evenings with topics from politics to what shall we make for dinner tonight. And I can’t help but wonder what the world will look like when she is in her mid-life. Her brave optimism is what I wish for everyone … hope springs eternal.
So, while I reflect on milestones of the past and hopes for the future, personal and as it pertains to Finefolk (which, as anyone who has owned a business knows, they are one and the same), I begin with this: what am I enjoying now and how shall we grow?
My time with you lovely folks is so special to me and, as many of you know, I’ve decided to really expand on that: beginning this month, we will be open by appointment and for special events. I’m so excited about this as I will be able to really focus on my time with each of you individually and more dynamically offer what we’ve always offered: styling, alterations, wardrobe consults and putting looks together from our inventory of beloved designers.
I also have a few exciting new things I am working on that I can’t wait to share in the coming months…and I’m thrilled to see where these seeds of growth dare to lead.
In times of uncertainty and discomfort, I’ve always turned to the things in life that make me feel good, namely surrounding myself with beauty, be it art, food, good stories, good company, a simple floral arrangement, a special sweater… and I hope to expand on this in various ways in the coming months, as well. Expansion and growth are at the heart of the matter, this well-lived life we seek. And I sure hope I get to do it with you.
So, as I navigate these baby steps into this new year, you are all on my mind…and I wish you all a sense of calm, unyielding strength and a deep knowing that you are loved.
xo,
Leslie
